How to play Akshan — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Akshan is a mobile Marksman in Wild Rift who trades the simple auto-attack profile of most bot laners for a skirmisher's toolkit: a ranging boomerang poke, a grappling hook that swings him around terrain, and a passive that lets him revive a fallen ally by hunting down their killer. He deals primarily physical damage through stacked auto attacks, and rewards players who can weave mobility, camouflage, and burst windows into a single aggressive play.
Strengths
- Dirty Fighting stacks fast in extended trades, adding free magic damage and a shield on top of his normal auto-attack damage, and its second shot can be cancelled for a burst of movement speed whenever he needs to disengage or chase.
- Heroic Swing gives him unmatched repositioning: he can swing over walls to engage, disengage, or scout, and every hit landed while swinging can still crit for real damage, not just mobility.
- Going Rogue turns a teammate's death into a follow-up opportunity: finishing off their marked killer refunds gold and revives the ally, giving Akshan real team-fight utility beyond raw damage, and his camouflage near brush or terrain lets him set that play up unseen.
- Comeuppance can snipe a fleeing or careless target from well outside normal engage range, often securing kills teammates couldn't reach on their own.
Weaknesses
- His base survivability is low, so point-and-click stuns and heavy burst mages like Annie or Brand can punish him before his shield or mobility ever comes online.
- Untargetability and zone control -- Akali's Shroud or Viktor's gravity field, for example -- can dodge his Comeuppance lock-on or shut down a Heroic Swing engage entirely.
- Heroic Swing needs nearby terrain to function; caught in an open lane or objective pit without walls, he loses most of his combat mobility.
- Comeuppance takes a full 3 seconds to charge, making him an easy target for divers and roamers (a Twisted Fate gold card, for instance) who catch him mid-channel.
Combos
- Q -> AA -> E -> R: Poke with Avengerang for range and speed, land autos to build Dirty Fighting's stacks, swing in with Heroic Swing to close the distance and crit through your target, then clean up a fleeing survivor with a charged Comeuppance.
- AA x3 -> E engage: Bait a short trade with a couple of autos to get Dirty Fighting's bonus damage and shield active before committing to swing in for the real fight.
- E toward target -> cancel second shot for speed: Use Heroic Swing to close the gap, then hold the passive's second shot instead of firing it so you keep pace with a runner rather than taking the small bonus damage tick.
- W near brush -> flank -> R: Use Going Rogue's permanent camouflage near terrain to reposition unseen, then lock onto an isolated target with Comeuppance before they even know you're there.
Skill order: Q > E > W (take R whenever it's available)
Early game
Lane patiently and let Avengerang do the early work: every hit extends its range, so repeated pokes snowball into safer, longer-ranged trades as the game goes on. Because his own survivability is low, avoid committing to all-in fights until a few autos have Dirty Fighting's shield ready, and always check whether Heroic Swing actually has terrain nearby before you plan around it. Around level 5, start looking to swing into position for a pick or gank rather than forcing damage through a straight poke war.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
In the mid-to-late game, Akshan fights from the edges: swing in with Heroic Swing to tag a backline carry or peel for his own carry, land crit-capable autos while airborne, then swing back out before the frontline can punish him. Save Comeuppance for a target who is already out of position or fleeing, since its long charge time is dangerous to fire from the middle of a fight. If an ally goes down nearby, immediately hunt for their marked killer -- moving toward them while camouflaged grants bonus speed and mana regen, and finishing them within the window both pays out gold and brings your teammate straight back into the fight.
Pro tips
- Hold the passive's second shot for movement speed instead of firing it when you're chasing or repositioning; it's rarely worth losing the speed boost for a small amount of extra damage.
- While swinging on Heroic Swing, your autos automatically prioritize whoever hit you most recently, and they can still crit for big numbers even though on-hit effects are weakened -- so it's a real damage source when you dive after whoever's been poking you, not just a getaway tool.
- Track the enemy who kills your ally: they're marked as the Scoundrel for 40 seconds, and finishing them within 3 seconds of your damage both revives your teammate and nets bonus gold, so treat that kill as a top priority whenever it's up.
