How to play Aurora — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Aurora is a ranged burst mage in Wild Rift whose whole kit revolves around slipping between two spirit realms — every poke, dash, and zone she drops pulls from that same dual-realm toolkit. She chips away at health from max range with Twofold Hex, then cashes in for a real magic-damage spike once the curse mark detonates or her passive triggers, while Across the Veil gives her some of the best repositioning tools in the mage class. She's a pick-and-poke mage rather than a frontline threat, winning fights by wearing enemies down safely and finishing them from a distance rather than trading blows up close.
Strengths
- Twofold Hex is a two-stage poke-into-execute tool — the delayed detonation deals extra damage based on the target's missing HP, so a low-health enemy can be deleted from max range.
- Across the Veil doubles as an escape and a pick tool: landing briefly turns her invisible and grants a 25% speed boost for 4 seconds, and any takedown resets its cooldown outright so she can hop straight back in or out.
- Between Worlds turns a skirmish into a one-sided cage — she can teleport freely between the two edges of her zone while anyone else trying to cross gets slowed hard.
- Spirit Abjuration rewards clean poke patterns: three instances of damage on the same target adds bonus magic damage off their max HP, plus a trailing spirit that heals her when the target is a champion — sustain most poke mages don't get.
Weaknesses
- Very low innate durability — outside of her own mobility she has almost nothing to fall back on if she gets dove.
- Both Across the Veil and Between Worlds are commitment tools on real cooldowns; whiffing the dash or misreading the ultimate's timing can leave her stranded with no follow-up.
- She brings little peel or crowd control for her own team — her slows exist to enable her own burst, not to protect her carries.
- The Twofold Hex detonation is telegraphed by its own first cast, so sharp opponents can walk out of the mark's radius before it goes off.
Combos
- Q (first cast) → basic attack → Q (recast) — landing three total instances of damage on one target procs Spirit Abjuration for bonus max-HP-scaling magic damage, plus a healing spirit if the target's a champion.
- E → Q (first cast) → Q (recast) — The Weirding's slow keeps the target inside the curse mark's radius long enough for the detonation to land at full value instead of whiffing.
- W in → secure the kill → W out — hop in to finish a low-health target; the takedown refunds Across the Veil's cooldown so you can immediately re-engage or vanish.
- R (first cast) → Q/E follow-up → R (recast or cross) — jump in to force the boundary slow on anyone entering or fleeing the zone, dump Twofold Hex and The Weirding on whoever's trapped, then either teleport across to reposition or recast early once the play is finished.
Skill order: Q > E > W — level Between Worlds (R) whenever it's available
Early game
Poke at max range with Twofold Hex's first cast — it already hits everything along its path, so you're chipping health and clearing wave at the same time. Don't recast the mark on reflex; if you can't land it cleanly just let its 3.5-second timer run out, since it detonates on its own. Save Across the Veil for dodging a real all-in or grabbing a kill rather than just closing distance, and use The Weirding's brutal 80% slow and backward displacement to punish overextensions and walk away from the trade you just won. Her first real power spike lands once Luden's Echo is online, when that poke starts threatening actual chunks of health.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid game on, stay on the back line poking and only commit once Spirit Abjuration or a low-HP target makes the detonate a clean kill. Open fights with Between Worlds on an isolated or diving target — the boundary slow punishes anyone trying to peel them out or chase you down, and you can cross the zone instantly to follow up or bail. Target whoever's easiest to burst rather than the frontline, since Aurora doesn't have the health bar to fight through a tank, and hold the ultimate's recast to close the zone the moment the pick is finished or you need the cooldown back.
Pro tips
- Don't panic-recast Twofold Hex — if the second hit isn't guaranteed, walk away and let the mark auto-detonate; you keep the damage without the exposure.
- Track your own passive stacks in a fight: the third instance of damage on a target is free bonus damage and healing, and that healing matters a lot given how little sustain she otherwise has.
- Treat Between Worlds as a zoning tool first and a damage tool second — trapping a diver on the wrong side of the boundary can win a fight on its own, even before any follow-up damage lands.
