How to play Brand — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Brand, the Burning Vengeance, is Wild Rift's signature burn mage - a mid-lane specialist whose entire kit revolves around stacking a damage-over-time effect called Blaze, then detonating it for a burst of max-health magic damage to everyone standing nearby. Every point of damage he deals is ranged, magical, and area-based, so he farms waves, pokes down health bars, and can threaten to erase a clustered enemy team off a single well-aimed Pyroclasm. He's built for top-end damage rather than survivability, and the whole champion boils down to one idea: stay at range, stack the burn, and let the fire finish the job.
Strengths
- Unmatched teamfight burst - once several enemies are stacked near each other, a single Pyroclasm can chain Blaze detonations from one target into the next and end the fight outright.
- Free, built-in crowd control - Sear only needs a target that's already carrying a Blaze stack to become a 1.75-second stun, giving a pure mage real kill-securing and peel power.
- Excellent wave clear and lane control - Pillar of Flame and Conflagration both hit an area, letting Brand shove and clear minions from a position no melee laner can punish.
- Simple, consistent itemization - his entire core build revolves around sustained magic damage and burns, so his power spikes come from items rather than difficult combos.
Weaknesses
- Extremely fragile with no dash, blink, or shield of his own - anything that closes the gap fast, like Fizz or Kassadin, punishes him before he can react.
- Sear is a skillshot with noticeable travel time; whiff it and both the stun and the burst window disappear, letting mobile picks like Ahri walk straight through his combo.
- The Sear stun is conditional, not guaranteed - without an existing Blaze stack from W or E, it's just a damage poke with no lockdown attached.
- Pillar of Flame's brief cast delay telegraphs the ability, so an attentive opponent can step out of the zone and punish an empty cooldown.
Combos
- W into Q into E into R: Pillar of Flame goes out first so its own delay works in your favor and tags the target with Blaze; because they're already burning, the follow-up Sear lands as a 1.75-second stun instead of plain poke damage, Conflagration then ignites with extra spread, and Pyroclasm bounces through for the kill plus a movement slow.
- Q into W: a low-commitment lane poke - Sear chips health from max range, then Pillar of Flame threatens more damage and starts a Blaze stack, all without walking into auto-attack range.
- E into R: the teamfight detonation - Conflagration ignites a grouped enemy team so the burn spreads through the cluster, then Pyroclasm bounces across the pile; enough stacks on enough targets and one detonation triggers the next.
- W into E: the safest wave-clear pattern - drop Pillar of Flame on the clumped melee minions, then Conflagration to spread the ignite through the rest of the wave from maximum range.
Skill order: Q > E > W (level R whenever it's available)
Early game
Play Brand like a ranged siege mage: sit at max distance, use Sear to farm and poke, and avoid trading in auto-attack range since he has no escape if a fight turns against him. Throw Pillar of Flame into the enemy's path to threaten damage and pre-apply a Blaze stack before committing to anything bigger. Once your first item spike lands, look for the W into Q lockdown the moment an opponent misjudges their spacing - but remember a single whiffed Sear removes your entire kill threat for that trade, so farming safely beats forcing fights you haven't set up.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid game onward, Brand's job is to stand at the very back of every fight and wait for the enemy to clump - a dive, a choke point, or a contested objective. The instant two or more targets are close together, Pyroclasm through the group can chain Blaze detonations and end the fight in a single cast. Until that window exists, keep poking with Sear, Pillar of Flame, and Conflagration from max range to wear down health bars and bait bad engages. Save Zhonya's Hourglass for the moment you get dove, and always release your combo before you're forced to disengage - his damage only matters if it lands before he dies.
Pro tips
- Don't waste Sear's stun on plain chip damage - apply a Blaze stack with W or E first, then use the stun window to secure a kill or peel for a teammate.
- Aim Pyroclasm at the two or three enemies standing closest together rather than the frontline tank alone; the chain-detonation math only pays off against a real cluster.
- Buy Zhonya's Hourglass earlier than usual into dive-heavy matchups like Fizz or Kassadin - Brand has zero built-in escape, so the timer has to do the surviving for him.
