How to play Jhin — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Jhin, Wild Rift's most theatrical marksman, turns basic attacks into a rhythmic burst weapon: his revolver Whisper only ever holds four rounds, and the fourth always critically strikes for a huge hit instead of scaling off attack speed like a normal AD carry. He mixes physical poke, a conditional hard root, and a genuinely long-range execute in Curtain Call, and his whole playstyle is built around patient setup - land a slow or a trap first, then let one perfectly timed shot finish the job.
Strengths
- Whisper's fourth shot always crits for a big hit, so instead of scaling off attack speed like most ADCs, Jhin gets a reliable burst nuke on a predictable cycle - land it on the right target and it swings a trade instantly.
- Curtain Call fires four long-range shots that stop on the first champion hit, slow by 80%, and deal more damage the lower the target's health - with the fourth always critting for 200%, it's a genuine execute from off-screen distances most marksmen can't dream of reaching.
- Deadly Flourish turns into a hard root - not just a slow - on anyone who's recently taken damage from Jhin or an ally, or who's walked through a Lotus Trap, so he can lock down a priority target without needing outside CC.
- Snowballs on his own: Dancing Grenade bounces to up to four targets with each takedown boosting the next bounce's damage by 44%, and every kill also plants a fresh Lotus Trap on the spot that slows and then blasts whoever walks into it - one good fight can spiral fast.
Weaknesses
- Only four rounds per clip - get forced to reload mid-trade and Jhin has nothing but a weak auto-attack until Whisper cycles back up.
- Zero mobility: no dash, blink, or hard escape, so anyone who closes the distance while he's reloading or channeling Curtain Call punishes him hard.
- Deadly Flourish's root is conditional, not guaranteed - without a Lotus Trap proc or recent damage on the target, it's just an 84-damage poke shot with no lockdown.
- Curtain Call needs a full channel and a clean line - dashes, blinks, displacement, or hard CC on Jhin can cut the sequence short before the crit shot ever fires.
Combos
- E into W - Drop a Lotus Trap in a brush or choke point first; the moment it triggers the 30% slow, fire Deadly Flourish for a guaranteed root plus 84 physical damage.
- Q into auto-attacks into W - Open with Dancing Grenade to poke and clear the wave, weave in autoattacks to cycle toward your crit shot, then land W once the target is already tagged so the root lands automatically.
- R the instant CC lands - Whether it's your own root, a Lotus Trap, or an ally's stun, fire Curtain Call right after: damage scales up as the target loses health, so a follow-up on an already-damaged target is often a straight kill.
Skill order: W > Q > E
Early game
Lane like a poke duelist: use Dancing Grenade from range to chip health and clear waves rather than forcing autoattack trades, and keep a running count of your remaining shots so you're never reloading right as an all-in starts. Pre-place Captive Audience traps in brush and river entrances - the 30% slow they apply is often all you need to convert a Deadly Flourish into a full root, and a jungler who walks into one hands you a free read on the gank. Look for trades only once you can promise a root: a landed W after a trap or your support's damage usually swings the exchange completely in your favor.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid game on, Jhin wants to be at maximum range doing everything except initiating - he has no escape if the fight comes to him. Save Curtain Call for a target who's already slowed or rooted, since each of the four shots deals more damage as their health drops and the last one crits for 200%, easily enough to delete a squishy carry or snipe a fleeing target from well off-screen. Keep seeding Captive Audience traps on flanks and choke points so dives get slowed and revealed before they ever reach you, and remember every takedown drops a fresh trap on the spot - use that free vision and slow to chain straight into the next pick.
Pro tips
- Always track your shot count in the corner of the screen - saving the crit for a champion instead of burning it on a minion wave is the single biggest damage difference between an average Jhin and a great one.
- Place Captive Audience proactively on common gank and flank paths before a fight starts, and remember every takedown auto-plants another one right where the kill happened - chain that free vision and slow straight into your next target.
- Don't fire Curtain Call as your opening move. Since damage scales up the lower the target's health, it's far stronger as a finisher on someone already low, slowed, or rooted than as your first action in a fight.
