How to play Lux — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Lux is a long-range burst Mage built around never entering melee range, making her one of the safest playstyles in Wild Rift's mid lane. Her whole kit deals magic damage from far outside retaliation distance: root with Light Binding, detonate Illumination for bonus damage, then finish with the map-crossing Final Spark. She has one of the highest damage ceilings of any mage, but almost no mobility to back it up, so she lives or dies by landing skillshots from safety rather than trading up close.
Strengths
- Outstanding poke range - Q, E, and R all threaten from well outside normal engage distance, letting her chip enemies down (or execute them outright) without ever entering retaliation range.
- Explosive one-rotation burst - Illumination's bonus damage stacks on top of already strong ability ratios, so a clean combo can delete a squishy target in a single trade.
- Q can root two enemies in one cast, turning a single well-aimed Light Binding into game-swinging crowd control for the whole team in skirmishes.
- Final Spark pierces everyone it touches and threatens from almost the full width of the map, giving her poke, execute, and pick potential all from one ability.
Weaknesses
- No dash, blink, or built-in escape - once a high-mobility all-in closes the distance, Prismatic Barrier's shield and Flash are her only outs.
- Every source of damage is a skillshot: whiffing Q loses her only hard CC, and mirrored-range opponents can dodge her just as easily as she dodges them.
- A single wind-wall-type block erases Q, E, and R in one motion, leaving her with nothing but Prismatic Barrier to contribute to the fight.
- Extremely low effective HP - short hops or jumps that ignore minion walls slip past her one defensive tool and can burst her down before she lands a second cast.
Combos
- Q -> AA -> E - the core trade: root with Light Binding, weave an auto-attack to pop the Illumination bonus, then drop Lucent Singularity under them for the slow and extra damage.
- Q -> E -> R - the burst/kill combo: lock the target in place, detonate the mark with Lucent Singularity for extra damage and a slow, then finish with Final Spark before they can escape the beam.
- W -> Q - the defensive opener: Prismatic Barrier shields you the moment you throw it, buying HP while you look for the follow-up root in a trade or dive.
Skill order: E > Q > W - max Lucent Singularity first for its low cooldown poke and wave clear, Light Binding second for damage and CC, Prismatic Barrier last; take Final Spark at every chance (levels 5, 9, 13).
Early game
Play Lux from max range: lean on Lucent Singularity to poke and clear waves safely when you don't have a clean read for Q, and only commit Light Binding when you're confident it lands, since a whiffed root wastes your best tool and leaves you defenseless. Avoid extended trades entirely - she has no escape, so every exchange should be won at range, not up close. Look to hit level 5 first: Final Spark turns a normal poke into a kill threat or a forced recall from a full screen away, and it's her first real power spike in lane.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid-game on, Lux fights from the very back of her team, well outside engage range, using Final Spark as a pre-fight poke to whittle down a target before the main clash even starts. In the fight itself, prioritize locking down the biggest threat with Q - an overextended diver or a caught-out carry - then drop Lucent Singularity into the fight to slow multiple targets and zone a choke point. Save Final Spark's long cooldown for whichever pays off more: securing a kill on a fleeing squishy, or lining up several enemies for a piercing poke, since it hits everyone the beam touches. Keep Prismatic Barrier ready to shield yourself or a diving ally rather than getting caught trying to fight in melee range.
Pro tips
- Land Q before anything else in your rotation - it's your only hard CC, and the rest of your combo becomes far easier to dodge once it's not backed by a root.
- Use Lucent Singularity proactively to check bushes and river crossings before committing to a dive or a walk-up - it reveals ambushes without needing a ward.
- Don't hoard Final Spark waiting for a 'perfect' kill shot - a long-cooldown ability that never gets cast is wasted value, so use it to poke or force plays whenever the read is good.
