How to play Mordekaiser — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Mordekaiser is a magic-damage Fighter in Wild Rift built around isolating one enemy and grinding them down, whether that's a solo trade in lane or his signature Realm of Death, which drags a single champion into a private arena for seven seconds. He deals sustained magic damage through empowered basic attacks and a stacking dark aura, backed by a damage-storing shield that turns punishment into staying power. He's less about flashy teamfight combos and more about winning individual duels that swing the whole game.
Strengths
- Obliterate's 45% bonus damage against a lone target makes 1v1 lane trades and side-lane duels brutally one-sided in his favor.
- Realm of Death can remove the enemy's biggest threat from a teamfight for a full 7 seconds, turning a 5v5 into a favorable 4v4 while he finishes his own fight.
- Indestructible banks a share of all damage he deals and takes into a shield (and later a heal), giving him real staying power in extended skirmishes.
- His passive's stacking aura and bonus magic damage on autos reward him for staying in fights and chaining takedowns, letting one good duel snowball fast.
Weaknesses
- No dash and no hard CC beyond a brief 1-second slow, so mobile or ranged champions can poke and kite him without ever getting pulled in.
- Realm of Death is high-commitment: banishing the wrong target, especially one with sustain, stealth, or an untargetable dash, can waste his entire ultimate for nothing.
- Indestructible's shield is only as strong as the damage feeding it, so popping it early with nothing incoming leaves him with just its weak minimum value.
- Outside of Death's Grasp he has no peel or disengage, which makes him vulnerable to burst before level 5 or whenever he's caught alone without his ultimate up.
Combos
- E → Q → AA — Death's Grasp yanks an isolated enemy into range, Obliterate lands on that lone target for its 45% solo bonus, and empowered auto-attacks finish the trade.
- R → E → Q — Realm of Death banishes the target into a private 1v1, Death's Grasp drags them in tight, and Obliterate always gets its full single-target bonus since no one else can ever share the hit.
- W → fight → W — cast Indestructible as damage starts landing to bank a shield from what you deal and take, then recast it once the danger passes to turn whatever's left into healing.
Skill order: Q > E > W — max Obliterate first for the hardest-hitting trades and clear, take Death's Grasp second for more frequent pulls and slows, and leave Indestructible for last since one early point already gives a workable shield.
Early game
In lane, look for trades where Obliterate can land on a single isolated champion rather than clipping the wave, since the 45% solo bonus makes one clean hit worth more than spreading it. Use Death's Grasp to punish overextensions or to drag a target into Q range, then keep chipping away with your passive's empowered autos every time you connect. Save Indestructible for moments you're actually about to eat real damage, since the shield is weak until it's fed, and recast it for healing once things cool down. Farm honestly until 5, because his power spike hits hard the moment Realm of Death comes online.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
Mordekaiser doesn't really fight 5v5, he fights 1v1 five times over: send Realm of Death at the enemy's biggest threat, a fed carry, a diving assassin, or whoever your team can't otherwise handle, and turn the fight into a 4v4 your side should win while he finishes his own duel. Inside the Realm, Obliterate always lands on a lone target, so it hits for full bonus damage every time. In the main fight, hold Indestructible until burst is actually incoming, keep the passive's aura and empowered autos ticking on whoever is closest, and use Death's Grasp to drag priority targets into range rather than to peel. Time the ultimate for a fight you can either win outright or one where simply removing their key piece is enough to swing it.
Pro tips
- Only commit Realm of Death to a target you can either kill or whose removal clearly swings the fight, burning it on a tanky target or a champion with strong sustain wastes your whole ultimate.
- Check for untargetability, blinks, or spell shields before ulting: a few champions can still dodge or neutralize you even inside your own Realm.
- Aim Obliterate at a single hero whenever you can instead of the wave, the 45% solo-target bonus is often worth passing up extra clear for a clean poke.
