How to play Taliyah — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Taliyah, the Stoneweaver, is a ranged mid-lane mage in Wild Rift who fights with thrown rock and reshaped terrain instead of a single flashy burst combo. Threaded Volley pokes and clears waves from long range, Unraveled Earth turns enemy dashes and forced movement into stuns, and Weaver's Wall gives her some of the best map presence of any mage - she can split a fight, block an engage, or ride the wall to reposition in an instant. She's less about deleting one target in half a second and more about controlling where a fight happens and who's allowed to move through it.
Strengths
- Threaded Volley (Q) rewards spreading damage across targets rather than focusing one - every rock deals full damage to a new enemy it hits, so she pokes and clears waves far more efficiently than mages who only threaten a single target at a time.
- Recasting Threaded Volley (Q) onto the worked ground her first volley leaves behind is a genuine single-target burst button - it costs mana instead of extra cooldown, comes back faster, and fires one boulder that hits and slows far harder than the initial shards.
- Unraveled Earth (E) punishes mobility directly - any dash or forced displacement through the field gets cut short and stunned, which makes dive assassins and hard-engage tanks think twice before committing onto her or her team.
- Weaver's Wall (R) is elite map control - it knocks back enemies on creation, can block incoming dashes or skillshots outright, and lets her ride along it to threaten a flank or vanish from a fight.
Weaknesses
- Very fragile with no defensive tool built into her kit - once a diver actually reaches her, she has to out-position or out-CC them, because nothing in her kit lets her simply tank the hit.
- Threaded Volley's damage falls off by 60% on repeat hits to the same target, so without landing the worked-ground recast she has very little single-target burst against one isolated enemy.
- Weaver's Wall (R) is locked out for three seconds after she takes any champion or structure damage, so the exact moment she's being dived is often the moment her best repositioning tool disappears.
- Hard countered by spell shields, wind walls, and blink or untargetable dashes - champions like Kassadin and Yasuo can shrug off or dodge her entire poke-and-terrain game plan for free.
Combos
- Threaded Volley into itself (Q into Q) - land the first volley, then fire Q again onto the worked ground it left behind; the recast consumes mana instead of extra cooldown and launches one boulder that slows and hits far harder than the initial shards, her real single-target burst window.
- Unraveled Earth into Seismic Shove (E into W) - lay the rubble field over a choke point or escape line, then shove an enemy across it; forced displacement through the field detonates it for a long stun, since the explosion needs a dash or displacement to trigger rather than just standing on it.
- Weaver's Wall into a follow-up (R into Q or E) - slam the wall through a grouped enemy team to knock them apart on creation, then punish whoever got isolated with a Threaded Volley or a fresh Unraveled Earth field before they can regroup.
- Full lockdown (E into W into Q, then autoattacks) - lay the field, shove the target through it for the stun, unload Threaded Volley and recast it if the worked ground lands, then close with autoattacks while they're stunned.
Skill order: Q > E > W (take R whenever it's available at 5/9/13). Max Threaded Volley first since it's her main poke and wave-clear tool, put the second point into Unraveled Earth for the extra damage and stun setup in skirmishes, and leave Seismic Shove at rank one as long as possible since its value is almost entirely the forced displacement, not raw damage.
Early game
Play Taliyah like a long-range poker in lane: sit at max Threaded Volley range, spread your shards across the wave instead of dumping all five into one minion, and only commit to the worked-ground recast when the enemy laner is caught out of position, since that's where her real damage lives. Once Unraveled Earth comes online, start laying it over the wave or over likely dash-in paths so an aggressive walk-up turns into a stun instead of a free hit on you. Her clearest power spike is the moment Q and its recast are both available - look for short trades then - but respect melee and dash-heavy matchups before that, since she has very little to fall back on in a close fight.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid game on, Taliyah wants to fight from the flank or the back of her own team, poking grouped enemies with Threaded Volley so the damage resets across multiple targets instead of falling off on one. Drop Unraveled Earth on the path the enemy engage is likely to take, so their dive turns into a long stun the moment someone commits to it. Save Weaver's Wall to split the fight - wall the enemy frontline off from your carries, block a dive coming at you, or ride it onto an exposed flank - but don't throw it out on the engage side unless you're confident you won't take damage in the next three seconds, or you lose the option to ride it away when you need it most.
Pro tips
- Think about the follow-up before you even throw the first Threaded Volley - aim it somewhere you can immediately recast on, ideally a spot the target can't easily step off of, since the second cast is where her real damage comes from.
- Use Weaver's Wall proactively even outside of fights, to block vision and cut off a dash or gank path in lane - it costs very little on a long rotation, just remember it locks out the instant you've taken damage in the last three seconds.
- Against dash-heavy lanes, lay Unraveled Earth over your own retreat path or right where they're likely to land - an assassin stunned mid-dash is far easier to punish than one you try to out-poke with shards alone.
