How to play Volibear — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Volibear is a relentless Fighter most often played in the Jungle in Wild Rift, built to grab one target and refuse to let go. He blends physical auto-attack damage with magic bursts from his passive and Sky Splitter, and gets tankier and faster the longer a skirmish drags on. He's a low-difficulty bruiser who wins fights through sustain and a terrifying dive engage rather than flashy combos.

Strengths

  • Frenzied Maul (W) swings 1v1s and jungle duels in his favor: the empowered bite hits hard and heals him back up, so extended trades usually go his way.
  • Stormbringer (R) is a genuine game-changer, closing gaps, disabling nearby turrets for 3 seconds, and letting him force dives most Fighters simply can't.
  • Relentless Storm rewards staying in the fight: every auto or ability adds attack speed, and at 5 stacks his next auto splashes bonus magic damage onto the target and nearby enemies.
  • Thundering Smash (Q) gives reliable engage: bonus speed toward enemies plus a hard stun means he rarely whiffs his initiation.

Weaknesses

  • Outside his ultimate he has no real escape or ranged tool, so once Stormbringer is down he can be kited hard by ranged champions.
  • His whole kit is single-target and melee-range, so he brings almost no peel or AoE control to a teamfight.
  • He's noticeably weaker before his passive stacks and Frenzied Maul's frenzy state come online, so a fast all-in can punish him before he ramps up.
  • Percent-health true damage, blinks, and blind or kite tools (the Vayne, Gwen, and Teemo matchups, for example) cut straight through his stick-and-sustain game plan.

Combos

Skill order: W > E > Q

Early game

In the Jungle, use Frenzied Maul on camps to trigger Frenzy for faster clears and extra sustain, then look to gank the moment Thundering Smash is up since the speed boost toward the enemy makes it hard to juke. In lane trades, throw out Sky Splitter for safe poke and a shield before committing to anything closer range. Once he hits level 5, Stormbringer turns a decent gank into a near-guaranteed kill or turret dive.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

Volibear isn't a frontline tank, he's a diver. Use Stormbringer to go around the fight and land on an isolated backline target, following up immediately with Thundering Smash's stun so the target can't just walk away. Hold Frenzied Maul for the moment you're fully committed, since the heal and damage spike can flip a losing trade into a kill. Building bruiser staples like Heartsteel or Trinity Force gives him the health and damage to lead a dive instead of waiting on peel from teammates.
