How to play Wukong — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Wukong is an easy-to-pick-up, deception-based Fighter in Wild Rift, built around a decoy clone, hard-hitting dashes, and heavy physical damage. He's one of the more approachable champions to learn, yet he swings fights hard once his combo comes online: Warrior Trickster's clone baits the wrong reaction while Nimbus Strike and Cyclone let him dive straight onto priority targets. Expect a self-sufficient, high-damage skirmisher rather than a peel-and-protect teammate.
Strengths
- Warrior Trickster's clone creates real 50/50 reads in duels and skirmishes, baiting spells, dashes, or damage meant for the real Wukong.
- Excellent single-target mobility: Nimbus Strike closes gaps or resets fights, and Cyclone adds another burst of movement speed plus a knockup.
- Snowballs hard once Golden Staff's empowered auto pairs with a proc item like Divine Sunderer, turning ordinary trades into real burst damage.
- Cyclone is a genuine teamfight-turning tool - it hits everyone nearby, scales off the target's max HP so it threatens tanks too, and can be recast for extra value.
Weaknesses
- Very little team utility outside the ultimate - no shields, hard peel, or reliable CC for allies beyond Cyclone's knockup, so he wins fights alone more than he enables others.
- Soft early levels: before the E-into-empowered-auto combo unlocks around level 3-4, he's mostly stuck trading with plain auto-attacks and Stone Skin stacks.
- His engage is easy to read - Nimbus Strike into an empowered auto is a predictable pattern that dodges, parries, and blinds (Riposte, Counter Strike, Blind) punish hard.
- Fully melee and dash-dependent: hard crowd control or knockbacks that interrupt Nimbus Strike leave him stranded with no ranged tools to fall back on.
Combos
- Q -> AA -> E: pop Golden Staff just before you're in range so the bonus damage lands on your dash-in auto, then Nimbus Strike to reposition and pick up the attack-speed buff for the follow-up.
- W -> E: dash away in stealth to drop a decoy, then Nimbus Strike back in the moment the enemy commits to chasing the wrong target.
- E -> Q -> R: Nimbus Strike to close the distance, empower your next auto with Golden Staff, then Cyclone to knock up and hold the target down for your team.
- Q -> W -> E: proc Golden Staff, use Warrior Trickster's stealth to close in unseen, then Nimbus Strike the instant you reappear for a full burst before the target can react.
Skill order: Q > E > W (max Cyclone whenever it's available)
Early game
Focus on clean, efficient clears using Golden Staff's empowered auto to shred through camps or waves quickly, and start hunting for skirmishes once you hit level 3-4 and your full E-into-auto trade is online. Use Warrior Trickster's stealth to slip past vision and set up plays the enemy never sees coming, letting the clone soak up a spell or a read before your real damage lands. Avoid long, face-tank trades before level 5 - without Cyclone you have no knockup, so pick your windows around cooldowns instead. Once Nimbus Strike connects, its attack-speed buff plus your Stone Skin stacks are usually enough to win short trades against squishier opponents.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From mid game on, look to flank rather than walk in from the front: go invisible with Warrior Trickster, loop around vision, and land Cyclone on the backline before the enemy front line even reacts. Save the ultimate's knockup for the first isolated priority target you can reach - locking down a marksman or mage buys your team a clean window to burst them down - and remember you can recast Cyclone within 8 seconds if a second wave of displacement is worth more than a longer single cast. With Divine Sunderer online, that empowered auto also punishes tanks and duelists who try to just stand and fight you. Keep the clone active for the extra chip damage and split focus, but treat it as a distraction, not a shield - if the flank closes, fall back to peeling for your own carries instead.
Pro tips
- Time Golden Staff's proc for a champion, not a minion or camp - using it right before you engage wastes the bonus damage if it triggers a moment too early.
- Send Warrior Trickster's clone in a different direction than your real dash when diving; a well-placed decoy genuinely draws skillshots and cooldowns meant for you.
- Don't spend Nimbus Strike as a pure gap-closer when you can't threaten a kill - the attack-speed window and clones it creates are worth more when timed for an actual fight.
