How to play Zilean — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips
Zilean is a utility-first Support in Wild Rift, and one of the few champions who can flat-out rewrite a fight instead of just poking it — his damage is magic and comes almost entirely from stacked Time Bombs, while his real strength is protecting carries and denying kills outright. Chronoshift can rewind a teammate's death and bring them back at 600 HP three seconds later, and Twisted Timeflow or Temporal Mirage let him speed his team up or slow the enemy down at exactly the right moment. He's built for players who like thinking two steps ahead of the fight instead of standing in the middle of it.
Strengths
- Chronoshift (R) can deny almost any all-in or execute — including point-and-click executes like Pyke's — by rewinding the target's death, making aggressive dives far riskier for the enemy to commit to.
- Time Bomb (Q) carries two charges, and re-bombing an already-marked target instantly detonates the first bomb for a 1.2-second stun — a long-range punish for overextensions and a ready-made gank setup.
- Time In A Bottle lets him hand a stockpile of free experience to a snowballing jungler or mid laner, pushing their power spike ahead of schedule.
- Twisted Timeflow (W) shields both himself and his nearest ally while boosting movement speed, projectile speed, and his own cooldown recovery, making him surprisingly slippery and hard to burst down.
Weaknesses
- His personal survivability is among the lowest of any support — no dash, blink, or hard peel, so hard-engage champions like Leona can reach him before Q or W ever comes online.
- Cleanse-style effects strip the double-bomb stun entirely, and strong healing (Milio, for example) shuts down his poke since he has no way to punish through sustain.
- Time In A Bottle sits on a 90-second cooldown and is cancelled the instant he takes damage or gets crowd controlled, so triggering it too close to the enemy is a real liability.
- Outside the delayed bomb stun he brings zero hard, instant CC, so good positioning and pre-planning matter far more for him than for most supports.
Combos
- Q → Q (same target): the first bomb detonates instantly for a 1.2-second stun — his signature pick and punish tool.
- W → Q → AA → Q: pop the shield and haste, poke with a bomb, weave in an auto, then re-bomb the same target once it resets for the stun.
- E → Q → Q: slow the enemy team inside the field first so they can't walk out of the follow-up double-bomb stun.
- R (pre-cast) into a team engage: drop it on your ADC or yourself a second before the enemy commits, so it's already active when the burst lands.
Skill order: Q > W > E
Early game
Lane passively: poke with single Time Bombs rather than burning both charges, and hold the double-bomb stun for the moment the enemy overextends or commits to an all-in. Cast Twisted Timeflow just before a trade so the shield eats their poke and the extra speed lets you land one more auto or slip away from the follow-up. Only trigger Time In A Bottle's experience share when you're completely safe, since a single poke cancels it — banking it for your jungler or a snowballing mid laner before level 5 can win them their lane outright. Once you hit level 5, start looking for chances to pre-cast Chronoshift on your ADC during a dive rather than saving it purely as a last resort.
Mid & late game — teamfighting
From the mid-game on, play from maximum range instead of the frontline — your job is to double-bomb whoever the enemy commits onto, slow their path to your backline with Temporal Mirage, and shield or haste whichever ally is about to get focused. Pre-cast Chronoshift on your ADC or yourself right as the fight opens rather than waiting for the killing blow, since most burst combos land in the first second or two and a target that refuses to die swings the fight immediately. Prioritize bombing assassins and divers over the frontline, and never burn your own Chronoshift unless you're genuinely the one about to die.
Pro tips
- Drop a lone Time Bomb on your jungler before a gank lands — the instant they arrive at the target, a second bomb detonates the first for a free stun.
- Cast Chronoshift proactively rather than reactively: it lasts 5 seconds, so casting it a moment before the enemy's combo lands beats trying to react to the exact killing blow, and an unused cast still refunds 10% of its cooldown.
- Spend Time In A Bottle's 90-second cooldown deliberately, in dead time like a lane stalemate or right after clearing vision, rather than mid-fight where any stray damage cancels it.
