How to play Zoe — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Zoe, the Aspect of Twilight, is a burst mage played in the mid lane in Wild Rift who combines some of the highest damage output in her kit with very low survivability — she's built to end a fight in one clean rotation, not to stand and trade. Every point of that damage comes from magic-damage skillshots and an empowered auto-attack, so she lives and dies by landing Paddle Star and Sleepy Trouble Bubble rather than by raw stats. She's also the game's resident spell thief, able to steal and reuse enemy summoner spells and item actives for tempo plays no other mage has access to.

Strengths

  • One clean combo — sleep bubble into Q and an empowered auto — threatens to burst most squishies from range once she has a couple of items.
  • Portal Jump gives her a repositioning tool to open fights, poke, or contest objectives from an angle the enemy isn't watching.
  • Spell Thief turns enemy summoner spells and active items against them, effectively handing Zoe extra Flashes, Ignites, or Exhausts over a game.
  • Long effective range and solid wave clear make her a strong roaming mage who can shove a wave and leave lane without losing much tempo.

Weaknesses

  • Very low durability with no defensive tools of her own — she has little chance in a straight fight if she's caught out of position.
  • Every bit of her damage depends on landing a skillshot; missing Q or E in the opener leaves her with only minor passive damage.
  • Matchups with a shield or dash that closes distance in one move — Kassadin's shield eating a charged Q, or Yasuo's Wind Wall blocking both Q and the bubble — can shut down her whole combo before it starts.
  • Offers little peel or utility for her team beyond burst damage — no hard crowd control or reliable way to save an ally in a fight.

Combos

Skill order: Q > E > W — take R at every level it's available (5, 9, 13).

Early game

Lane from max range and treat Paddle Star as your primary trading tool — it scales hard with distance, so chip from beyond minion range instead of trading up close. Only commit Sleepy Trouble Bubble once you're confident it lands, since missing it costs you your best damage and your main kill threat for several seconds. Against other skillshot mages, the trade often comes down to who uses minions as cover better, so stay behind your wave and only extend once you've baited out their answer. Prioritize picking up spell shards from enemy summoner casts and nearby minion kills — a free Flash or Ignite from Spell Thief can win an all-in you'd otherwise lose, and once Portal Jump unlocks at level 5 you gain a real kill threat even in lanes you were losing.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

In the mid-to-late game, hang on the edge of fights and wait for a clean look at the enemy's priority target — usually the backline carry or whoever wanders into bubble range — then open with Sleepy Trouble Bubble and follow through with Q and an auto once the sleep triggers. Use Portal Jump to create an attack angle the enemy isn't watching, remembering you can still cast and attack during the jump but can't move and will automatically return to your starting spot after a second. Stay behind your frontline outside of these windows: Zoe has no shield, dash, or hard escape of her own and folds instantly to focus. Save a stolen Ignite or Exhaust from Spell Thief for the moment it swings a skirmish — the extra summoner spell is often the real difference in a close fight.
